Check out --- Fences by August Wilson - March 19 to April 9 on the Spriet Stage at the Grand Threatre (recommended by our own Jim Cressman)
Set in Pittsburgh in the 1950s and 1960s during the civil rights movement, a former Negro League baseball star who was considered too old when Major League Baseball began admitting black players, now supports his family by working as a trash collector.
The literal fence in the play is set in contrast to the poetic ones that Troy Maxson, his wife Rose, and his sons keep building up and trying to tear down. This is one of the most honoured plays in American theatre, winning the Pulitzer Prize along with Tony and Drama Desk awards for best new play in 1987. It was adapted for the screen in 2016 and starred Denzel Washington and Viola Davis and was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning one.
