LDBA will soon be running tryouts for the 2026 Ontario Summer games team. The tryout plan is to have a few indoor workouts in April and hopefully get on a diamond late April/early May for a couple tryouts/scrimmages to finialize the 2026 roster.
The Coaching staff for the 2026 Ontario Summer games team will be Chris Devlin, Dave Ramsdale & Mathew Berger. All three coaches have years of coaching experience within LDBA and around Ontario and no family relationship to any players that could attend the 2026 LDBA Ontario Summer games tryouts.
We look forward to putting together a competitive group of players from within the LDBA and hope to see players from all LDBA associations at the tryouts. The Ontario Summer games team is a great opportunity for players to get new experiences and build a bond with players you've often played against for years. I was lucky enough to play on a Sun Parlour team in the Ontario Summer games years ago and Dave Ramsdale has coached LDBA Summer games teams in the past so we are looking forward to this coaching opportunity as well.
Once the team is picked, we will need to play a best of 3 playdown series against the Sun Parlour team. This will happen between May 15 and June 1 as mandated by OBA. The playdown is necessary because more than the 12 required teams put in applications to attend the Games. A random draw was held to determine the 4 teams that needed to play in. After this, players will move forward with their regular LDBA teams and schedule, we will try and set up a few practices this summer to get the boys together but understand that everyone's first commitment is to their regular team.
Those players selected to the roster, and if we move forward from the Playdowns, will have some cost. A maximum of 16 players can be selected to the team. While the cost structure has yet to be determined I would expect at a minimum $300/player up to a max of $415/player. We will have a family meeting to finalize those numbers after the team is selected so players and families can help decide what and how much we want to purchase. The fee would cover players accommodations at the tournament, diamond time, insurance, LDBA Uniform (Hat & Jersey at a minimum).
Ontario Summer games will take place in Waterloo July 30-August 2nd.
